万里の長城

「月から見える唯一の建造物」
地図上の総距離は2700kmですが、山を上下しているので総延長は6000kmに及びます。(北海道から沖縄までの日本列島を囲む距離)高さは平均7.8ｍ、幅は6.5ｍあり、10人の隊列が横並びに移動できます。
建造が始まったのは2500年前の周の時代で、匈奴の侵入を防ぐのが目的でした。
その後、秦の始皇帝が数百万人を動員して本格的な建造を成し遂げました。さらに、明代には蒙古の襲来を恐れ、大規模な修復を行い、現在の長城を造り上げました。
北京の八達嶺にある長城は、きわめて上質の材料を使って特に堅固に築造されており、もっとも完全な形で保存されている、長城観賞には最適な場所です。(上写真)
このほか、金山嶺長城、慕田峪長城、司馬台長城、古北口長城などがあります。
天津の黄崖関長城、河北省の山海関、甘粛省の嘉峪関(右写真)は、いずれも有名な長城遊覧の景勝の地です。
