七十二候

七十二候（しちじゅうにこう）とは、二十四節気を更に3つに分け，約5日ごとに初候（第1候），次候（第2候），末候（第3候）とし，一年を72候に分けたものです。
紀元前の中国で使われ始め日本でも早くから取り入れられましたが，黄河流域が起源の暦は日本と合わず，江戸時代，貞享暦（じょうきょうれき： 1685-1754）の作者，渋川晴海が日本の自然に合わせて修正した本朝七十二候が作られ，雑節（土用や彼岸など）も設けられました。
それでも区分が細かすぎる七十二候は実用的でなく，また実体不明な動植物の名も多いことから，現在ではあまり使われません。
