中国の現行の行政区画は、省、県、郷の三段階制度です。
全国には省、自治区、直轄市が置かれ、省、自治区には自治州、県、自治県、市が置かれ、県、自治県には郷、民族郷、鎮が置かれています。
直轄市と比較的大きな市には区、県が置かれ、自治州には県、自治県、市が置かれています。自治区、自治州、自治県はいずれも民族自治区域です。
現在、全国には23の省、5つの自治区、4つの直轄市、2つの特別行政区があります。
